About Erica
How do you measure success?
My measure of success is the positive difference that I have made in other people’s lives.
When did you start your career in the insurance business?
After graduating from Westmont College with a degree in economics and business in the early ’80s, I hit the ground running with my first job educating retirees on the best options for retirement and insurance plans. 23 years later, I have never looked back. I love working in the senior market; it completes me. My work educating, guiding, and caring for seniors has been a very rewarding experience.
What is the best part of your profession?
I love working in the senior community because I have developed an extended family by insuring and servicing more than four thousand seniors and their families of as many as four generations since 1983. It is not uncommon for me to receive phone calls at home late in the evening from a client of mine from a decade ago asking for my help in coordinating services for a loved one who has just taken ill. My clients know they can count on me! Helping my clients is a lifelong commitment and often develops into a relationship that can help their children’s children. I love that the senior relationships I have nurtured have spanned most of my adult life.
Who or what inspired/inspires you?
My parents were strong role models who taught me to be conscientious in my work ethic and always give back to my community.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I was a volunteer reader for the Reading for the Blind in 9th grade.
Why do seniors like the way you work?
I either serve seniors from a boutique cottage home office where my seniors have
easy access, or I go to their home— whichever is a more comfortable setting for my clients to receive the personal attention they deserve.
What current pursuit are you most excited about?
The “Giving While Living” Program—a philanthropic tool to help 501 (c)(3) nonprofit's
raise significant sums of money and provide a significant tax benefit to an individual, at a very minimal cost to the individual. (805) 679-EPRO (3776) for more information.
What has been one of your most interesting responsibilities in the Santa Barbara community?
Coaching our deserving youth at the Goleta Boys and Girls Club since 1986.
Have you ever failed at something?
Failure is not an option! That’s part of the integrity of who I am.
